It's hard to believe, but 2022 is almost over—and it's been a whirlwind for all of us here at the ACLU of Vermont. While we face many challenges ahead, there is much to celebrate in all we have accomplished together this year.
Here is just some of what your support made possible in 2022:
Vermont secured the strongest abortion rights protections in the country with the passage of the Reproductive Liberty Amendment, approved by an overwhelming majority of voters. The ACLU and our partners were involved in this fight from the very beginning, and we will continue our work to enhance legal protections for anyone who seeks or provides reproductive and gender affirming healthcare in Vermont.
This election year, we put a spotlight on the critical role of state’s attorneys in our criminal legal system, giving voters the information they needed to choose candidates who believe in investing in people over prisons.
We created Vermont’s first centralized database for reporting and tracking dishonest cops, and continue working for meaningful police accountability and oversight measures, while opposing “tough on crime” policies that don’t make our communities safer or more just.
Culminating four years of advocacy, we celebrated the passage of a state law to bring greater transparency to our criminal legal system to help eradicate racial disparities that remain among the worst in the nation.
After five years of litigation, we closed the book on a groundbreaking case on behalf of Migrant Justice, an organization advocating for migrant farmworkers in Vermont, to stop state officials from working with immigration agents to unlawfully target Migrant Justice members. We continue monitoring to ensure that Vermont stays out of the deportation business.

We wouldn't have accomplished any of this without your support, so we hope you'll take pride in this. We can’t wait to see what we’ll accomplish together in 2023!
