Vermont’s primary election is coming up on August 13th, just a month away. Have you made your voting plan yet? Here are a few tips to help you prepare:
To begin this process, make sure you are registered! You can take a few minutes to register to vote on the Secretary of States website.
If you are already registered, you can log in to My Voter Page to check your status and make sure your mailing address is up to date! All registered voters should receive a mail-in ballot for the general election happening in November. However, for the primary on August 13th you must request a ballot to be sent in the mail. Voter registration is possible on the same day if you are unable to register before.
Make time to cast your vote. Return your marked ballot by mail, at a secure drop box, or at your town clerk’s office if you are voting early. Be sure to follow all instructions for filling out your ballot. If you requested a ballot in the mail, we recommend sending in your ballot at least a week or more before the election day!
If you opt to vote in-person on August 13th, be sure to confirm your polling place with the Secretary of State's website or your town/city clerk's office, and make a plan for what time you will go and how you will get there. Then, vote!
Get to know the candidates
Candidates for local and statewide offices are on the ballot in this primary election. Learn more about who is running for office by following local news outlets, consulting our forthcoming questionnaire for local candidates, or the Secretary of State’s list of candidates, which includes campaign websites and contact information.
Spread the word!
Remind your friends and family that the election is coming up and encourage them to make their own voting plan! Your vote matters, and it is critical during this election and every election that you vote your values.
