Although the 2022 legislative session is still several months away, you can advance racial justice, privacy rights, criminal legal reform, and other civil rights and civil liberties issues right now.

8 WAYS TO ACT TODAY:

1. CLOSE THE DATA GAP

The lack of publicly available data impedes informed policymaking and obscures racial and geographic disparities in Vermont's criminal justice system. Tell your legislators to advance racial justice by closing the data gap in our criminal legal system.

2. REMOVE ARMED COPS FROM SCHOOLS

The presence of “school resource officers” (SROs) disproportionately harms students of color, students with disabilities, and low-income students. We must end the use of police in schools and invest in educational support services. Tell your legislators to reduce the footprint of law enforcement by removing armed cops from our schools.

3. PROTECT VERMONTERS’ PRIVACY

Send a message today and urge Senator Leahy, Senator Sanders, and Representative Welch to stop Border Patrol’s proposed 200-foot-tall surveillance towers in northern Vermont and oppose the militarization of our borders.

4. SIGN OUR SMART JUSTICE PETITION

For too long, Vermont has relied on the criminal legal system as a way to respond to substance use disorder, mental health conditions, and poverty. We envision a smarter system that is humane, equitable, and rooted in community-based solutions. Share your support for building a smarter justice system by signing our petition.
